Dr. Mahmoud Nassar from Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) has co-authored a pioneering study on enhancing chemical bonding in biopolymers using Click Chemistry. Collaborating with Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, the research, titled " New Click Chemistry Scheme Towards Improvement of Filler/Polymer Crosslinking in Bio-based Polymer Composites," was published in the journal Polymer-Plastics Technology and Materials.
The study introduces a novel method to improve compatibility between natural fibers and polymers in biocomposites. By grafting an azide functional group onto polypropylene (PP), the researchers enhanced the interaction between polymers and natural fibers during chemical cross-linking. This innovative approach resulted in composite biomaterials with superior mechanical properties, thermal stability, and biocompatibility compared to non-cross-linked materials.
The findings highlight the potential of Click Chemistry for developing next-generation polymers, emphasizing PPU's role in advancing scientific research. For more details, visit Published Research.
